Erectile Dysfunction Treatment in Budapest

Personalised medical treatment for erection problems

Erectile dysfunction is a common male health problem, but it is not always the same condition. In some men, it is mainly vascular. In others, it may be related to low testosterone, stress, medication, diabetes, obesity, pelvic problems or a combination of several factors.

At our andrology clinic in Budapest, erectile dysfunction is treated with a personalised medical approach. The aim is not only to prescribe a tablet, but to understand the cause of the problem and choose the most suitable treatment.

When should you see an andrologist?

A specialist consultation may be useful if you experience:

  • weaker erections
  • less reliable erections
  • loss of morning erections
  • reduced sexual confidence
  • reduced libido
  • erections that do not last long enough
  • poor response to ED tablets
  • erection problems together with fatigue or low testosterone symptoms

Erectile dysfunction can also be an early sign of metabolic, hormonal or cardiovascular problems, therefore proper medical assessment is important.

Diagnostic assessment

The evaluation may include medical and sexual history, physical examination, hormone testing and laboratory assessment.

Depending on the case, we may check testosterone, free testosterone, SHBG, LH, FSH, prolactin, oestradiol, blood glucose, lipid profile and other metabolic or cardiovascular risk markers.

In selected cases, penile ultrasound or penile Doppler ultrasound may help assess vascular function and guide treatment planning.

Treatment options

Erectile dysfunction can often be treated successfully, especially when the underlying cause is identified.

Treatment may include oral medication, hormonal treatment, lifestyle and metabolic correction, low-intensity shockwave therapy, PRP treatment or injection-based therapies.

The treatment plan is always individualised.

Oral medication

PDE5 inhibitors are commonly used first-line medical treatments for erectile dysfunction. These medicines may improve erection quality by supporting penile blood flow during sexual stimulation.

Some men need occasional use, while others may benefit from a daily low-dose strategy, depending on symptoms, frequency of sexual activity and associated urinary or prostate symptoms.

If tablets do not work well, the problem is often not the medicine itself, but incorrect timing, insufficient dose, low testosterone, vascular dysfunction or mixed underlying causes.

Hormonal treatment

Low testosterone can reduce libido, erection quality, morning erections and sexual motivation.

If testosterone deficiency is confirmed, hormonal treatment may be considered. This may include testosterone replacement therapy in appropriate patients or fertility-preserving hormonal strategies in men who still wish to have children.

Hormonal treatment is only started after proper laboratory evaluation and risk assessment.

Low-intensity shockwave therapy

Low-intensity shockwave therapy is a non-surgical treatment option mainly used in men with vascular erectile dysfunction.

The aim is to improve penile blood flow and support erectile function. It may be used alone in selected cases or combined with medication when tablets provide only partial improvement.

PRP treatment

PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is an injectable regenerative treatment using a processed sample from the patient’s own blood.

In erectile dysfunction, PRP is used as an advanced, minimally invasive option in selected patients, especially when the aim is to support tissue regeneration and penile vascular function.

PRP is not a universal solution for every type of erectile dysfunction, but it may be considered as part of an individualised treatment plan.

Injection-based treatments

For men who do not respond adequately to tablets, injection-based treatments may be considered.

These may include intracavernosal medication or other advanced injection-based therapies in selected cases. The goal is to achieve a reliable erection when oral medication is insufficient.

Before starting injection therapy, proper instruction, dose adjustment and medical supervision are essential.

Combination treatment

Many men benefit most from a combined approach.

For example, treatment may include PDE5 medication, hormone optimisation, shockwave therapy, PRP or injection-based treatment, depending on the cause and severity of erectile dysfunction.

This is especially important in complex cases, such as diabetes, metabolic syndrome, low testosterone, post-prostate treatment erectile dysfunction or long-standing vascular ED.

Our approach

Our approach is based on specialist andrological evaluation.

We focus on identifying the cause of erectile dysfunction, assessing hormonal and vascular factors, choosing the most suitable treatment and adjusting therapy according to response.

The goal is not only a short-term improvement, but better sexual confidence, more reliable erections and improved quality of life.
